BU ATHLETICS
2024-25 annual report

Dear Terrier Nation,
As we look back at our numerous individual, team and department accolades from 2024-25, there is both a sense of gratification and excitement for what lies ahead.
We take pride in fostering an environment in which success is attainable from the beginning to end of each school year across all 24 of our varsity sports. This past year produced six conference team titles and incredible performances at the regional and national levels. In addition, our student-athlete body once again set a new standard with a record 3.43 department grade-point average.
Despite dramatic shifts in the college sports landscape, our mission has remained the same – attracting the best scholar-athletes to grow, develop and succeed within their sport and academically while immersing themselves in the community of our world-class institution.
As you read this, our athletes, coaches and staff are all focused on making the 2025-26 school year the best one yet. We are thankful for the wonderful support from President Gilliam and University leadership that allows us to aim high with confidence while representing BU with immense pride.
Go Terriers!

Hockey Dominance
It was a great year for BU Hockey! The women won their sixth Hockey East championship in program history in head coach Tara Watchorn's second year at the helm. The men won the Beanpot, the Belpot and finished as the national runner-up, making their third consecutive Frozen Four appearance. BU was one of five schools to have both their men's and women's teams reach the NCAA tournament.
The women's team finished the year 24-12-2, marking the first time since 2019 that BU had a 20+ win season. The men wrapped the year 24-14-2 and extended their record number of Beanpot titles to 32.
The BU Hockey programs combined for two conference major award winners, six Hockey East All-Stars, five New England All Stars, a National Rookie of the Year and a First Team All-American.

Going the DistancE
The Track & Field and Cross Country programs had one of their best years in recent history with an indoor women's Patriot League title, four NCAA appearances across all seasons and 11 outdoor regional qualifiers, all in director of track & field and cross country Grant Cartwright's first year.
Recent graduate Vera Sjöberg became the first Terrier and Patriot League athlete to compete in two events at the outdoor NCAA meet, finishing as the runner-up in the 5000m and 11th in the 1500m.
At the indoor NCAA meet, Sjöberg finished eighth in the mile while graduate Foster Malleck finished third in the mile. Both went on to compete for their home countries at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in China the following week.

In a league of our own
The Terriers took home six women's conference titles this academic year, with five in the Patriot League and one in Hockey East. Rowing and softball successfully defended their titles from last year while ice hockey, tennis, soccer and indoor track & field made their way to the top.
With our six women's titles, no other school in New England had more women's conference titles than us.
It was tennis' 29th, soccer's 14th, indoor track & field's 15th, ice hockey's 6th, rowing's 8th and softball's 17th conference title in program history.

BU Bounce back
This year, we started BU Bounce Back, a community created for student-athletes who are navigating injury and recovery and looking for connection and support. It’s a student-led group that meets monthly and provides a space to share experiences, access resources, and support one another through the challenges of being injured.
For student-athletes who are either currently recovering or have been through the hardships before, BU Bounce Back was created to make them feel less alone and more connected.
